I used to be on of those kids in high school that giggled when the topic of sex was brought up. I mean, I enjoyed learning about the human body and its reproductive organs, but then sex was a weird topic for me. You couldn’t blame me though, I was an awkward teenager who thought that sex was a bad thing, and for a long time, that remained the main thought in my head, but sex is deeper than the raunchy movie scenes. I want to talk about the health benefits for men and women when it comes to sex.
Benefits of Sex for Women
Helps Keep Your Immune System Humming
According to sexual health personnel, people who are sexually active people tend to take fewer sick days than the average person. People who have regular sex also tend to have higher levels of what defends the human body against dangerous germs, viruses, and other intruders. Research carried out at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania discovered that college students who had sex at least once or twice a week tended to have higher levels of the a certain antibody compared to students who had sex less often. (In addition to having sex, women should still do all the other things that make your immune system happy, such as):
- Eating right (A balanced healthy diet is very important to have a stable immune system)
- Staying active.
- Getting in enough sleep.
- Keep up with your vaccines (it is so very important)
Boosted Brain Power
Consistent sex helps to keep up the brain activity and promotes sharpness, this happens because during sex, there is an increases in blood flow everywhere, including your brain. That increased blood flow includes an extra bump of glucose that you can use as energy. Consistent may just be the jump start that you need to get focused and productive in other areas of your busy life, so make it a priority, not an afterthought! (Let me quickly mention that sex with the person that you love has even more advantages, but I will discuss that in another post).
Reduced Stress
Are you anxious and stressed out because of your extremely busy lifestyle? Trust me, I know the feeling, I have been there (and maybe still am?), but I do have good news for you. Research from Scotland shows that people who have sex regularly, or who had sex within the past two weeks were better able to manage stressful situations in the workplace as well as outside the workplace. This is because during sex, endorphins and oxytocin are released and they actively help ward off anxiety and depression (with a huge surge at the orgasmic peak, but also consistently throughout any form of sexual activity).
It is the Ultimate Confidence Booster
As women age, they may begin to worry about wrinkle lines, and the toll of life’s major stressors showing on them, but did you know that for women, frequent sexual activity can make you look years younger than your age? This is a side effect of the release of estrogen during sex. As a woman, intimacy with your husband can also give you a sense of being attractive, desirable, proficient, and confident, and these elements can carry themselves over into other aspects of your life as well.
Better Sleep For You
While it is a belief cliché that most men tend to fall asleep right after sex, sex can help women to catch a few Z’s as well. During sex, the brain releases norepinephrine, serotonin, oxytocin, and vasopressin, which can instantly trigger the strong urge to cuddle or pass out. The endorphins that make you feel great and relieve pain can also relax your mind and body and get you primed for sleep. and this may be yet another explanation for why that pillow seems so inviting right after an orgasm – the hormone prolactin is also released during the Big “O” and prolactin levels are higher when sleeping. However,if your aim is to fall asleep right after sex, keep it low-key and slowed down, because being highly active can leave you feeling more energetic and not sleepy.
The Morning After
There is a glow that women tend to have right after sex, and the world calls it the “morning after glow”. After sexual intercourse, there is an increased blood circulation as well as a rush of oxygen in the blood, which means a temporarily brighter complexion, and smoother skin. An orgasm can trigger a rush of endorphins and growth hormones that even help heal damage caused by the thinning of the skin. Additionally, regular sex releases hormones including estrogen in women, which can keep the body looking young and vital. Estrogen also promotes softer skin and shiny hair. A recent study viewed female participants through a one way mirror and guessed their ages, and it was discovered that those having frequent sex with a steady partner were perceived to be seven to thirteen years younger than their less active female counterparts.
Benefits of Sex for Men
Healthier Heart
The benefits of sex for men are not that much different as those for women, but they are still relevant all the same. Sex counts as cardio, making it a great option for boosting the metabolism, losing weight, and maintaining a healthy heart! Studies show that your risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke goes down as the frequency of orgasms goes up. Assuming that you aren’t exceptionally vigorous, a good round of sex puts your heart in the same position as jogging 4-6 miles an hour. And like other cardio activities, exercising between the sheets has the added benefit of strengthening muscles and reducing your risk of heart disease and hypertension.
It Might Relieve Your Headache
According to a study carried out in 2013 in Germany, an orgasm might act as a natural pain-reliever. During the study, they surveyed nearly 350 people with migraines and more than 70 people with cluster headaches who had sex during an episode, and found that about 65 percent of migraine sufferers and 38 percent of those with cluster headaches said they felt relieved of their headaches afterwards. According to the research, endurance athletes, like marathon runners, might also have the upper advantage here, because since their bodies are used to release more endorphins, they have may have a higher chance of successfully using orgasms as a source of relieving their headaches.
As a man, during sex, your brain is flooded with endorphins. Endorphins are the body’s neurotransmitters that produce feelings of pleasure and pain relief during sex, so researchers wanted to find out if having sex while your head is aching might ease the pain, and they discovered that it can. so next time you have that banging headache, and that bottle of Tylenol seems to mysteriously be out of reach, you know what to do.
Reproductive Health
According to a study published in the American Journal of Medicine, having regular sex is beneficial because it keeps your member going strong, and the good thing about this is that you don’t really have to use it that often to notice the benefits: In a five year survey carried out in Finland, nearly 1,000 men aged 55 to 75 years old, who had gotten some action just once a week were half as likely to develop an erectile dysfunction compared to men who had sex a little less often.
So there you have it, sex is good for you so by all means have a roll in the sack often.
