10 Effective Homemade Scrubs for Oily Skin
Honey Scrub
We start with the famous honey. Honey is popular for its natural, non-toxic healing activities. It boasts of potent antioxidants that repair skin cells and grant protection from free radicals. Honey manages oil production and reduces the excess amounts of oil while keeping your skin properly hydrated. A honey face scrub will be effective in caring for your oily skin.
You will need a tablespoon of honey, two tablespoons of ground almonds (grainy and not too finely ground) and half a teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix all of them evenly before using the mixture to scrub your face for about three minutes. You can rinse your face with warm water five minutes later. You may try scrubbing twice every week.
Cucumber Scrub
Cucumber and skincare aren’t a new partnership. A cucumber scrub is a simple and easy one to do. The cucumber helps to clean up the excess oil content on your skin by acting as an astringent and shrinking your skin pores which are letting out more oil than normal.
You may get half of a cucumber and grate it, or mash the cucumber. Rub the mashed cucumber on your face and keep massaging in upward and circular motions for some five minutes. After these five minutes, you may rinse your face with cool water. Apply an oil-free moisturizer after each cucumber scrub. Two or three scrubs a week will be enough to keep your face clean and free from excess oil.
Green Tea Scrub
Green tea contains polyphenol and they are powerful antioxidants that reduce damaging oxidative stress on your skin. To make a green tea scrub, get ready two green tea bags, a few drops of lemon juice, two tablespoons of sugar, and a cup of hot water. After brewing the green tea in the hot water, remove the tea bags when the water becomes cold. Mix some two tablespoons of green tea decoction with two tablespoons of sugar and drops of lemon juice into a liquid consistency. Apply this green tea mixture on your face and scrub for another four minutes before rinsing your face with lukewarm water. After this, rinse your face again with cold water. Keep doing this two or three times each week.
Lemon Sugar Scrub
Lemon juice has the ability to tighten your skin pores and reduce excess oil on your skin because of the enzymes in it. It also neutralizes your skin’s pH with its acids. The reduction of oil on your skin leaves it lighter and cleaner. You will need a teaspoon of lemon juice, a few drops of olive oil and two teaspoons of brown sugar. Make a well-blended mixture of the sugar, olive oil and lemon juice (you may use honey too instead of olive oil). Apply this mixture to your face evenly and scrub for three minutes before rinsing your face with cool water. Apply a mild and oil-free moisturizer after this. Keep this scrub up three times weekly. Stir the mixture gently and prevent the sugar from melting completely in the mixture.
Papaya Scrub
Papaya, just like cucumber, is a great choice for a natural management of oily skin. Papaya is effective in exfoliating your skin, and its enzymes do a great job, comparable with chemical oily skin treatments, but without the risks. This scrub will help you to unclog and shrink your skin pores.
For this scrub, you will get a piece of ripe papaya and some drops of lemon juice. You may use the ripe papaya only though. Crush the papaya into a pulp, add a few drops of lemon juice, and rub this pulp all over your face and neck.
